Club Calirumba
Slogan
“Not the best, but striving to be different.”
Members
Calirumba was always characterized for being a club with many members. Throughout the years, an endless number of people have passed through; it would be impossible to name them all. We, Elvia and Dany, belong to the third generation, and within our 22 years of trajectory, we have had the fortune to live together and dance with all the generations.
How do you organize? Where do you meet, how often?
We, Elvia and Dany, are married, and due to personal and work matters, we have stopped attending rehearsals with the young people, but we try to make a little time to rehearse in a small space we have conditioned at home.
Soundsystems that you have accompanied and danced to
We have had the fortune of accompanying several soundsystem crews, but the ones we follow the most are Mister Suar, Sonido La Changa, and Sonido Antillana.
The song that brings the most joy to the dance is
We believe that a son montuno is what gets people going.
Emergence of the club
The club was created by the maestro Juan Manuel Cardoso, better known in the sonidero scene as Arau. This was at Salón Cosmos 2000, where we met him years later upon arriving at a rehearsal where they were preparing to celebrate the club’s anniversary. It is there that we shared for the first time with maestro Arau and our companions: Alex Ortiz, Benito de la Paz, Eli Bonet, the friend Rolas, Gustavo García, Pedro Romero, Alejandro Cárdenas, Pati, Sharon, Mayita, Janet, Angel, Mario, Eva, Óscar Gil, Miguel Farfán, the friend José, the friend Vizcainas, and others that we don't recall at the moment. This is how we arrived to stay.
Founding of the club
Founded in 1991
Genres they like to dance to
We like to dance a little bit of everything; it's good to learn different rhythms, but we definitely lean more towards salsa.
An unforgettable moment
I think there have been several, such as salsa congresses in Acapulco, dancing in the Arena Ciudad de México, appearing on television programs, and the most recent event: dancing in the Zócalo, to mention a few.
Three fundamental reasons to go dancing through life
- We feel that the first would be the enjoyment of music
- the second would be surrounding yourself with friends who share the same passion for dance,
- and number three, we think it is the best therapy to forget all of life's unpleasantness. Those would be our three very important reasons.
